(More customer reviews)As it's name indicates, it's made out of plastic where as many of the other items in this catagory are metal but it does everything they do at about 20-30% of the cost. The cost of shipping was more than the cost of the tamper. The dual size tampers is a nice feature if you are not sure what size you need for your machine and the shaft between the two is long enough that you can firmly grip the unit without your fingers/knuckles getting in the way when tamping the grinds.

LEM Sausage Stuffer 3lb Tinned w/ SS Stuffing Tubes Review

(More customer reviews)Yes, you can get a better sausage stuffer, at about twice the price.But this one is the best of this particular design.No plastic, all metal parts (except on the plunger).

A couple points...one, this is probably assembled in China.Mine had the plunger assembly put together a bit backwards.Yours should be white rubber piece, the thing that looks like a container lid, then the stainless disc and screw. It works much better assembled like that.Two, make sure you mount this very well.I made a jig to mount it to that fits firmly over my countertop and then used 4 cheap wood clamps from Harbor Freight to snug it up.Works great.Three, add a little water as you operate the plunger, if it's giving you a hard time.It will make little to no difference in the final product and make stuffing MUCH easier. Four, get some wooden dowels, each just slightly undersized for the bore of the tubes.Cut some inner tube rubber discs just oversize of the bore and, with a small nylon washer, screw the rubber discs to the end of the dowels (drill pilot hole first).When you are finishing the job up, you can then unscrew the main ring holding the tube on and use these dowels as a final plunger to move the rest of the meat into the casings.

I give it a 4 only because it will require these minor mods, and because at some point, new plunger parts will likely have to be made.The main body is built for life, though.

So...in conclusion, if you have the money and don't like futzing with things, go buy one of those cylinder units...but if you don't mind a little futzing, you can save a lot of money and end up with a unit that works just fine by buying this one.

Northern Industrial Meat Saw Review

(More customer reviews)Apparently Northern doesn't actually publish negative reviews on their website, I gave this saw a negative review there and that review never saw the light of day.For whatever reasons all the other reviews for this saw (on their site) are absolutely glowing.Oh well, that can easily be remedied on Amazon's site (which does publish honest, and often negative, reviews). In any case, I bought this saw intending to, of all things, cut and butcher animals. We recently butchered two pigs and when I went to use this saw to cut up the animals it quickly became apparent that this only looks like a meat saw. Past the visual similarities, there is very little else that would lead one to thinking this would actually work. The blade twists and turns trying to cut through bone (well, anything for that matter) and it is basically next to impossible to use for it's intended purpose. To finish the pigs we ended up having to use a cheap backpacker sized meat saw.Do yourself a favor and buy a real meat saw (or get a high quality old one off Ebay). This one is a waste of money.

These operate very smoothly - such a pleasure to use compared to others I've had.I really notice just how well constructed these are when I go to my boyfriend's house and use his S&P grinders that are fine to use, but not nearly as nice.I love that one can simply fine tune the granularity of the coarseness with a simple turn.
